In today’s post we talk about the 7th factor in achieving your dream career and/or job: your work environment.
Do not under estimate the impact that your work environment can have on you work life fulfilment. Imagine working in a fast pace, aggressive environment, when your work environment preference is a slow, considered and passive environment.
When you are considering your work environment, it is not just about the atmosphere, or culture at work, it includes other areas which go up to make a work environment package. These include:
- Geographic Location
- Company Size
- Primary Function
- Organisational Culture
In terms of a companies culture, several factors need to be considered including behaviour patterns, standards, values, overall “feel” of the organisation, as well as everything the company does and makes.
Then there are those of us who want to start our own business vs work for someone else. Currently in Australia the number of small businesses has grown by around 1% as a result of a decline in new entries and a decline in businesses closing. This paints an encouraging picture for those considering starting their own business.
To be successful in a small business you will have an advantage if you have and Entrepreneurial personality, or at least can pay someone to provide that for your business.
The other group of workers to consider are teleworkers, where employees work from home part-time or full-time. Technology gains and the ability to have flexible working arrangements is paving the way for people to consider this option more and more in Australia.
It is important that you stop and understand what you need from your work environment in order to be fulfilled and consider what you are need to have your dream career or job. Not one size fits all and the impact of your work environment on your emotional well being is very high.
