It is not enough to be busy…the question is: What are we busy about? – Henry David Thoreau
The 6th factor for this career coaching program is about setting your job and career targets. To find your authentic vocation it is important to get this right and take the time to reflect and explore.
This can be easier said than done, some people will have a clear focus of where they want to go, while others only know that they are unhappy doing what they are doing now, or don’t know where to start.
There is the potential during this phase to get frustrated or apprehensive about having to generate new job and career options, these feelings are normal at this stage. However, I would encourage you to stick with it and consider all your different options.
When you are defining your job and career targets, one approach is to start by capturing random ideas, thoughts, and information that you are noticing at this time.
Other approaches that will help you to broaden your options for your next job or career include:
- What are the logical next steps
- How can you build on what you have already done
- Look to your industry supply chain
- Engage a career coach
- Describe your ideal day
By using these approaches you can see if you keep coming back to a central theme, or what insights you find that will lead you in the direction you may want to consider.
The important part of this factor is that it provides the goals for your dream job or career.
