busy

It is not enough to be busy…the question is: What are we busy about?

Henry David Thoreau

To this point we have taken a journey of self-exploration and self-discovery to clarify your life purpose, values, motivators, interests, skills, and the experiences you wish to leverage.

Write down your answers on a one to two page sheet so that you can use this as a guide moving forward.

I am going to ask you to develop an attitude of curiosity.  Take the opportunity to think beyond all you have done and been so far.  What different jobs or careers are you interested in or would like to try, in other words throw it out there and see what sticks.

You may feel like you are going crazy during this phase, having a different idea every day, not knowing what you want to do or be, or just totally confused.

Firstly the feeling of being scattered and unsure is normal and you will think about jobs or careers that you will discard until one eventually sticks.

Secondly, try to get inspiration from job ads, informational interviews or books and articles you have read.

I would encourage you to do some research and  capture those jobs and careers that appeal to you.  You can capture these by writing your answers in a diary or book, or even just writing on a scrap of paper and placing in an ideas box or envelope.

The research can be formalised and structured, or just discovered in your day to day pursuits, the important thing is to take time – a suggested timeframe would be four to six weeks.  You will be looking to discover a pattern at the end of this time to see what is right for you.
