Career Path

We live in a world that is constantly changing, now more than ever.  Up until the 1980’s, the traditional approach to a career path was similar to a ladder, one rung at a time.  We started as an office junior, moved to a team leader, supervisor, manager and onwards.  We traditionally also tended to stay with the same company for our career life.

You might find it interesting to know that now a person could expect to have ten career changes in their professional life.  Most of us will work in more than one company and not to mention the type of work we do will change as automation in the workplace increases.

Now is the time to think about our career and where we see ourselves in the future, but also what will careers look like in the future.  Now is the time to take control and grab the opportunities and not fear the changes ahead.

This week we will talk about the different types of career paths and provide examples.  This is important, for you to understand as when you are planning your career you will also want to think about what type of career path is right for you.

This may change over time, but as with everything you will be updating your career path regularly and knowing the different options will help you to decide your next direction.
